Apple is also integrating the feature into macOS and iPadOS following its debut on iOS 18. Mail can auto-categorize emails, similar to Apple Watch. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg stated that it would ship with macOS 15.4 and iPadOS 18.4 in April.

The categorization system, similar to Gmail’s sorting introduced in 2013, divides emails into categories like “Primary,” “Transactions,” “Updates,” and “Promotions.” Users can manually move emails between categories to refine sorting preferences for specific senders. However, unlike Gmail, Apple’s system doesn’t allow for custom categories or changes to sorting logic.

While some users will appreciate the convenience of automated sorting, others may find checking multiple inboxes for important messages cumbersome. Apple’s implementation on iOS has been well received and offers a more organized email experience. It remains to be seen how the feature will perform on larger screens, particularly on macOS.

One notable benefit is that it is a device-based categorization that doesn’t require M-series chips and will work on a wide variety of Apple devices. However, at launch, it will be available only for English-language emails.

Apple recently seeded the third beta of macOS 15.3, and based on this release, it appears that developer builds of macOS 15.4 with the sorting feature are probably weeks away. Though Gurman did not mention the iPadOS version, it is probably coming along with macOS 15.4.

The same updates will bring a much more context-aware Siri to Apple devices. Users can say things like “Add this address to Rick’s contact information” or “What time is my dinner with Mom?” and Siri will understand what’s going on from apps and the screen.

These are the latest developments from Apple as it rolls out enhancements in Intelligence incrementally. More recent updates include improved summaries for notifications and extended access to ChatGPT, demonstrating the improvement in usability within its ecosystem.

Apple is perfecting user experiences by developing more intelligent, intuitive features on macOS and iPadOS while catching up with the pace of competitors such as Google.
