Apple is preparing for the release of its new MacBook Air models based on the new M4 chip, with sales to start as early as March 2025. This follows months of rumor and speculation regarding the release of the much-anticipated machines. Apple marketing, sales, and retail teams have been confirmed to be preparing for the upcoming release by industry analyst Mark Gurman in his recent “Power On” newsletter.
Gurman says the available MacBook Air stock is being pulled into stores, which indicates the release is close. It is considered yet another sign that Apple is about to release the new models soon, even though the timing is uncertain. Although some first predicted that the release would occur sooner this year, the release of the iPhone 16e came first, leaving the MacBook Air to trail behind in March. Gurman previously indicated that the M4 MacBook Airs would arrive “within weeks” and is now confident the launch will happen by March, though whether it will take place early or late in the month is still unknown.
Apple unwittingly validated the new M4 MacBook Air computers in December 2024. The macOS Sequoia 15.2 software update contained mentions of the as-yet-unreleased devices, namely “Mac16,12” and “Mac16,13” — for the 13-inch and 15-inch M4 MacBook Airs that will become available in 2025.
These new MacBook Airs will be the next version of the much-loved laptop series, recognized for its sleek build, lightweight, and remarkable performance. With the M4 chip upgrade, users will experience a boost in processing capacity, graphics, and power efficiency.
As Apple makes last-minute preparations for the March launch, anticipation builds among tech experts and consumers ready to lay hands on the newest MacBook Air units. With the M4 chip’s anticipated prowess, these new laptops are well set to build on Apple’s reign in the ultraportable laptop niche.
