Lenovo has unveiled two new laptop concepts at the Barcelona-based Mobile World Congress (MWC), offering a foldable screen and solar-powered battery design.
The first, Lenovo ThinkBook ‘Flip’, features a laptop that includes an innovative 18-inch foldable screen. If opened fully, the laptop offers a spacious display, but it can also be folded in half so that there are two separate screens—one on each side. When fully folded, the device turns into a tablet-like form factor, offering users convenience as they can have a laptop and a tablet in one. While foldable screens have been around in smartphones, being introduced by the likes of Samsung and Honor, the idea of integrating them in laptops is new territory, and Lenovo is hard at work making the design better, especially about screen durability, before mass commercialization.
The second concept, Lenovo Yoga Solar PC, further complements its sustainable nature by placing solar panels in the back of the laptop. The solar panels can power using ambient light and provide a backup battery charge when the normal charger is absent. Even though the gadget itself still operates using a traditional charging system, the solar panels are designed to give users an additional hour of laptop use following a workday. This concept may be especially valuable for mobile people or where charging points are not readily available, offering a clean alternative for extending battery life.
These two technologies are yet to be at the prototype stage and are still not on the market. Lenovo’s track record of turning innovative concepts into reality—such as their prospective rollable laptop in the future—promotes hope that these concept ideas of the future might actually become a reality soon. As the world’s biggest PC maker, Lenovo keeps pushing limits, blending innovation with environmental friendliness in its concept of the future laptop.
