During the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, Disney made some of its most anticipated Star Wars experiences for its parks official. A new mission with characters from “The Mandalorian” will be added to the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run experience at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. The makeover will be released on May 22, 2026, alongside the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu movie.
The Mandalorian” creator Jon Favreau, Disney Imagineers Leslie Evans and Asa Kalama joined onstage at SXSW to talk about this new addition. They worked together to design a new mission that weaves into the storyline of the next film. The scenes for the attraction were filmed on the movie set so guests can feel at home in the familiar Star Wars settings, including Cloud City, on board the Millennium Falcon. Favreau highlighted that this new mission gives visitors the chance to take part in events occurring alongside the story of the film, creating a distinctive and immersive experience.
Aside from the new mission, Disney also launched the BDX droids, previously seen at Disneyland. The droids will soon also appear at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. They are also going to be included in The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, highlighting the harmony of the parks and the film universe. To maintain these droids in working condition, an Anzellan character named Auto, who is a droid repair technician, will be included. Auto, being the same species as Babu Frik from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, has also appeared in The Mandalorian series.
These announcements further highlight Disney’s commitment to enhancing guest experiences with the addition of popular Star Wars characters and storytelling in its rides. Fans can look forward to these immersive components, which will make them part of the adventures of The Mandalorian and the wider Star Wars galaxy.
