A New Chapter Begins in Crown Heights
Beth Rivkah, a Jewish girls’ school located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, has announced a major development—a brand new $50 million campus. The goal isn’t just expansion—it’s about empowerment.
This move comes during a time when Jewish communities are facing rising antisemitism, both online and in the streets. The school hopes this bold step sends a clear message: Jewish identity is something to be celebrated, not hidden.
A Campus With a Mission
This isn’t just any school building. The campus will be a place where Jewish girls can feel safe, supported, and proud. The plan is to provide high-quality education and a sense of belonging—two things that are especially important in uncertain times.
“We’re building a center to raise a generation of fearless Jewish girls,” said Yerachmiel Jacobson, a member of the school board. “A place where they can become leaders, educators, and unapologetic voices of light in a world that sometimes seems to grow darker by the day.”
Inspired by a Simple Flame
After the Hamas attacks on October 7, students from Beth Rivkah began giving out Shabbat candle sets across New York City. They handed out 10,000 in total. What started as a small gesture turned into a city-wide moment of unity.
“Everybody wanted candles,” said Sara Blau, director of the school’s alumnae association. “We didn’t expect it to spread so fast. But it reminded us that even small flames can light up great darkness.”
Teaching Pride, Not Fear
Veteran educator Miryam Swerdlov spoke about how important it is for girls to feel proud of their faith. “We tried to help our girls understand just how evil the world outside can be,” she said. “We wanted them to cherish the pride of being a Jew, to wear it not as a burden but as a crown.”
She added, “Antisemitism can’t survive when we shine with joy, with faith, with strength. We don’t fight by hiding. We fight by standing tall. I will be proud of my Judaism. I will act Jewish. I will look Jewish. I will teach Jewish.”
Looking Ahead
This new campus is about much more than classrooms and desks. It’s a space where future Jewish leaders will be shaped, where confidence is nurtured, and where the message is loud and clear: you don’t have to hide who you are.
Beth Rivkah’s investment isn’t just financial—it’s a promise to the next generation. A promise that Jewish girls will grow up strong, proud, and unafraid.
