Canon is raising the bar in vlogging with the release of two new cameras, the PowerShot V1 compact camera and the R50 V mirrorless camera, both designed to take on Sony’s top-selling vlogging cameras. Both of these cameras have the potential to change the content and video-making experience with features that are packed with power specifically designed for content creators and influencers.

The PowerShot V1, already released in Japan, will be launched in North America. The camera is unique due to its massive 1.4-inch 22.3MP sensor, which is far larger than the sensor found in most point-and-shoot cameras. The size of the sensor, combined with the 17-52mm f/2.8-4.5 lens, ensures more low-light ability and the ability of a deeper depth of field. It also includes 4K video at 30fps full sensor width, 4K 60p cropped, and 1080p at 240fps. With Canon’s C-Log3, which also provides 10-bit 4:2:2 recording, the video with professional level and with additional dynamic range is guaranteed.

The PowerShot V1 is vlogger-focused. It has some professional shooting modes such as “close-up demo mode” for fast object focusing and “smooth skin mode” for beauty content. It also boasts “movie IS mode” for walking and in-motion steady shots. Its Dual Pixel II autofocus, featuring face and eye tracking, is another draw for content creators. The camera features an integrated fan for preventing overheating during long shoots, which is excellent for hours of vlogging.

Besides that, the PowerShot V1 has a mechanical physical shutter for quick burst shooting at a speed of up to 30fps with autofocus in electronic shutter mode. The camera also has a built-in ND filter, which allows creators to achieve a more cinematic look under high-light conditions. It is priced at $900 and will be available for sale starting April 2025.

In parallel, the R50 V mirrorless camera offers an affordable alternative to Sony’s ZV-E10 II with similar features optimized for vlogging. Together, these new additions to Canon’s vlogging lineup will give content creators a wider spectrum of high-performance, user-friendly cameras to augment their content production.
