Patricia Mahomes did well Saturday night despite taking some severe pounding from two consecutive crushing sacks and a big blow near his left rib cage early. In fact, during the game, Mahomes suffered a frightening injury. However, showing all competitive spunk he waved it aside and remained focused, spearheading his Chiefs to their hard-earned win.
His toughness has also marked his full commitment to his team, such that he doesn’t mind missing out on the game set to face his Denver Broncos this coming game.
It was an injury that would cause Mahomes to lose some mobility when taking the hit. He limped and winced on the field, and his fans and the coaching staff had immediate concern. The possible absence of Mahomes would hurt Kansas City much because of the central role he plays in running the offense. However, after a few minutes of sitting on the sideline and some medical assessment, Mahomes returned to the game and was determined to continue. He continued through the pain and actually ended up leading the Chiefs to a very crucial victory. That again showed his tenacity, which is nearly phenomenal.
For the Chiefs, this resilience from Mahomes can be nothing but gold when the team is pushing on through the middle of the season. Kansas City’s victory further cemented its position atop their division, and Mahomes’ sheer will to play even though injury inspired the rest of his teammates. Teammates and coaches pointed out Mahomes’ dedication and inspiration when talking about leadership from the quarterback on and off the field.
As the Chiefs go for the next game against the Denver Broncos, all eyes will be focused on Mahomes. An initial assessment seems to have determined it is not a big setback, and hopefully, he gets to stay active to take the lead for the Chiefs once more. Despite physical weakness, Mahomes would start taking light practice for days with the aim of gathering back his strength for this purpose.
Mahomes has come out with a never-say-die spirit which is slowly turning into a characteristic of his career. Fans fall in love with him just because of that; further, it has only helped him consolidate the top position for a quarterback in the NFL. This win against Philadelphia on Sunday, however, was more than just an important moment for the Chiefs.
Mahomes did what Mahomes tends to do. And so, as Kansas City seeks to capitalize on this winning spate, they can take comfort in knowing that they have a leader who’s certainly not afraid to put himself on the line for his team’s win.
