Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has officially launched a new feature allowing custom feeds on its Threads app. The update will let users create personalized feeds focused on topics or accounts. This comes just five days after the testing of the feature by Meta started, and it just goes to show how serious the company is about keeping the app competitive on the social media front.
To create a feed, users can use the in-app search for a topic, select the three-dot menu beside the search bar, and select “Create new feed.” More topics or accounts can be added through the same procedure in order for seamless customization by the users. This makes monitoring specific areas of interest much easier without being overwhelmed by content that is not related to such areas.
This feature is considered a direct response to competing platforms such as Bluesky, which gained popularity based on custom feed capabilities. Bluesky recently crossed 20 million users and showed steady growth. It is important to note that Threads has remained ahead with overall user numbers. According to the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, Threads saw over 15 million new signups in November alone, with more than one million registering daily.
The result could be that this feature will redefine how users interact with Threads, making it a stronger competitor in the crowded social media space. As Meta innovates more, users are likely to continue seeing more personalized and engaging experiences on the app.
