The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly being launched this Thursday, January 16, and could give fans a teaser before the bigger launch later in the year. Leaks that surfaced recently give a good glimpse of how the console might perform and shed light on the mysterious new ‘C’ button spotted on some alleged prototype units.
As stated by gaming forums and data miner ZachyCatGames, the Switch 2 could boast a GPU clock speed of up to 560 MHz in portable mode, delivering around 1.72 TFLOPs of performance. In docked mode, the GPU clock speed could nearly double to 1,007.3 MHz, hitting 3.09 TFLOPs. While not at the same level as the PS4 or PS4 Pro, this is still a huge jump from the original Nintendo Switch, which promises a more robust gaming experience.
Another leak was shared on a dedicated Discord server and picked up by GameRant that highlights the potential functionality of the ‘C’ button. The rumored firmware feature “Campus” would potentially allow Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to enjoy group and voice chat. Screensharing and group chat will be supported by this feature, allowing for 12 participants in the conversation, leading many to speculate that the ‘C’ could stand for “Chat” and not “Capture” as initially thought.
Skepticism surrounds the idea of a built-in chat function, given Nintendo’s historically cautious approach to social features. The Miiverse platform, discontinued in 2017, faced challenges with inappropriate content, pushing Nintendo toward safer, more controlled communication systems.
Although a dedicated screen capture button is still quite possible, Thursday’s potential announcement may help clear up all these speculations. As the fans wait for further details, the Nintendo Switch 2 is turning out to be a powerful and feature-rich successor to its predecessor.
